Once you could scrawl dimensions on a napkin, take it to a machine shop, and have a reasonable expectation that the part would be made right. Now, a responsible industrial firm needs to take a design and submit it to multiple manufacturing facilities for competing bids. There may be no prior relationship between the companies and the only common ground they have is the drawing. The drawing is almost a contract so it has to be right. Our standard drawing files are output in IGES format for all solid modeling projects. For simple jobs we output in .dxf 2D format. Image files in .jpg are also available. Not only can we draw the part but we can program CNC machines to make it. Thirty seven years in machine shops give us an advantage in sequencing jobs and fixturing that you can't get with inexperienced CNC programmers. And we also have a OneCNC CAD/CAM seat that is amazingly versatile with toolpath design. We are able to output standard ISO machine code for most modern machine controllers.
